A reader of my Substack recently told me she only reads “the short version” of my essay.

I was confused as there is no “short version.”

It turns out that was the name she’d assigned to the first two or three or four paragraphs before the paywall which was apparently satisfying enough that she didn’t feel the need to go on. This made me feel bad. I am experimenting with no “short version.”
