Do You Talk To Your Dog Too Much In Public?
When I was a teenager my brother had a girlfriend who talked to her dog a lot. My mother talked to our dog a fair amount so I was not unused to people talking to dogs but this girl was on another level. She would say things like “Sometimes people can be bitches, Sparky, don’t you think” or “Well I guess we’re not wanted here, Sparky,” or “I guess some people just don’t think someone is good enough for their precious brother/son, isn’t that right, Sparky” as we strained to not say to our own dog “Well, Trixie, does it seem at least possible to you that someone in this room is just universally provoking?” (dog names changed to protect the innocent/current residents of “the happy hunting ground”)
But that’s not the point of this story. The point of this story is I also talk to my dog too much and I am trying to cut down because believe it or not people don’t like hearing someone talk to their dog all the time. It’s tedious, and I know, because I can hear myself. I am desperate to cut down on it, and if you have the same bad habit, I suggest you follow my three-point plan for talking to your dog (or any pet) less when around others.
